Career Cruising @ Durand Middle School

In your child's computer class they will participate in career exploration. We want you to be a part of this exploration with your child. Please ask them to show you or tell you about this career unit. There will be three central questions that your son/daughter will need to answer:

 

• Who am I?
• Where am I going?
• How will I get there?

At Durand Middle School, we have the advantage of using a great tool called Career Cruising. This internet linked tool allows students to take quizzes about their interests and be matched with over forty different career choices. The students then can research the careers and even listen to interviews of men and women that tell them about what they do, along with the skills and training needed. We invite you to get on the internet with your child and ask them to show you this great website. You can even take the quizzes yourselves.

Your child has there own secure file set up on Career Cruising. It is called an Educational Development Plan, or EDP, in which they can save different careers that interest them, different colleges or technical schools that they want to go to, along with classes in high school that relate to their career plans, resume information and more. Along with 8th grade, your child will have access to their EDP all four years of high school. They can change anything in their EDP at anytime, as long as they have internet access. Your child's EDP username and password will remain the same throughout their school career.

• Your child's EDP password is: Their date of birth (00/00/00)

Your child will bring home their student ID number on the first day that we begin our career unit. I hope that you will enjoy this unit right along with your child.
