Principal's Message

Thank you for visiting the Durand Middle School website.  I, Rebecca Shankster, would like to give you a very warm Railroader welcome!  I have served the community of Durand as a teacher for 12 years and now am entering my fifth year as Principal of Durand Middle School.  I can assure you that I love this community and only want the very best for our students.  I will not settle for anything less than a top quality Durand education for your child. 

At Durand Middle School, we strive to be a safe place where all students belong.  We work hard to make sure we meet student’s academic needs, whether they need a little extra help or they need to be challenged.  Our top priority is to help all students meet their academic goals and will always go above and beyond to make sure we support every student.  We are also dedicated to making sure all students have a sense of belonging here at Durand Middle School.  We pride ourselves in our inclusive environment including our award winning Special Olympics teams. 

The teachers at Durand Middle School are second to none.  They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise in every core subject is represented.  We also have many talented teachers who give of their gifts to help others, from teaching a sign language class to mentoring a knitting club.  You will not find a school with more dedicated, caring, supportive, and qualified staff than you will here at Durand Middle School.
